About Meatspace

Introduction
Meatspace is a location in Second Life. Home of Meatspace Lounge and Patterntology Gallery. Kyle Beltran has regular music concerts in world that he streams from his studio in Van Nuys California. Quota Soon shows his oil paintings and digital work at the gallery.

The name Meatspace, has it's origin in cyberpunk fiction. Most notably in William Gibson's novel Neuromancer. Seems appropriate since the vision was to bring content from 'meatspace' into the virtual world.

Credit should go to where credit is due. Kyle has been the backbone that built Meatspace and has made it what it is today. He is a tireless advocate of SL, dedicates most of his waking hours to being inworld, constantly seeks innovation, and has grown as an artist for the last couple years because of it. Quota has had a minor and marginally supportive role for previous years. Now equipped with a powerful video card, and a supported modem, he is good to go and aims to expand visual arts at Meatspace.

Beginning as a collaboration of Kyle and Quota, it is now much more than that. Too many creative, generous and warm personalites to thank in one place, but the friends we have made inworld are priceless and appreciated. This site is a gift to the people that make Meatspace possible.

Credit is also due to the "minor and marginally supportive" Mr. Soon, who bought the first parcel in Anshe Chung's Plush Eta region, paid Kyle's account in full for the first year (making it possible for the constantly broke musician to dedicate even the very first of the aforementioned waking hours), and has applied his design expertise to every location since, making each more beautiful than the last.

Speaking of "the last", we certainly believe our Uberpatron, Pulaski Fizz, has provided it, making it not just the most recent location for the lounge and the gallery, but the only home we will ever need. A shoutout to Lothaniel "Piano Monkey" Yellowknife is in order as well for securing our 24-hour dedicated stream for performances as well as the persistent Meatspace Radio, "All Kyle, all the time". Sure, sweat equity counts for something, but money still makes even a virtual world go 'round :)

History
Early Meatspace
Kyle and Quota in the good ol' days.
In December of the year 2006 Jerediah Beltran and Silas Soon carved their first wooden prim themselves on their 512 meter homestead. The digital conditions were difficult if not impossible: 90 prims, no voice chat, no web browser, widespread gambling, 10 euro-danceclubs to every sim, and frequent griefing by hostile natives. Silas's fruit rind powered console and steam driven communicator made it near to impossible for him to teleport for a couple years. Yet the two persisted in the pioneering effort; all the while sending frequent messages to their spouses of this strange new land.

Three locations and years later, their progeny Kyle and Quota carry on the original vision of music, art and community at their home on the Isle of Puli.

The lounge was officially opened on Valentine's Day 2007 and debuted two other Second Life artists, Tone Uriza and Ankari Holder, both still active performers as of this writing. Tone opened the first of his own music venues just a parcel away, and Kyle would regularly ferry visitors through the canals that joined them in the six-passenger "T-Bone". This humble rowboat was decommissioned in 2008 after being piloted around the entire coast of the mainland by Kyle accompanied by photographer Callipygian Christensen, who documented the final voyage.

Patterntology Gallery was later installed as a second floor, above the lounge.

Tone opened his next club in the new Tuli sim, which Kyle instantly fell in love with. Quota and Kyle purchased an oceanfront parcel and completely redesigned Meatspace lounge there, giving the gallery its own parcel and dedicating areas, such as Issadora Cove (later Issadora Spring) and Trixie's Point, to notable Meatspace Muses. The original Asian and retro influences of the original design were kept but the place was opened up to better allow visitors to explore and enjoy the attractive landscape. Some months later, a larger parcel was purchased just up the coast and Meatspace was relocated there. Several friends of Meatspace also purchased parcels in Tuli, collectively owning a majority of the entire region at one point.

Around the turn of 2007, Animator Pulaski Fizz offered a large portion of his private island, AV Puli Animations, to host Meatspace. Kyle and Quota once again redesigned Meatspace in its entirety, making the most of their inspiring new region management powers to terraform the area with a Californian central coast feel (where Kyle and his wife honeymooned) and taking massive advantage of the seemingly endless prims on the estate.

Kyle, who adores landscaping, has managed to singlehandedly reduce the 15,000 prims that come with a new island to about 3,000 :)
